“Lose My Soul” by TobyMac
(feat. Kirk Franklin, Mandisa)
Man I wanna tell you all something, Man.
Man I’m not gonna let these material thing’s, get in my way, you all.
I’m trying to get somewhere.
I’m trying to get somewhere,
Thats real and pure and true and eternal.
Father God, I am clay in your hands,
Help me to stay that way through all life’s demands,
‘Cause they chip and they nag and they pull at me,
And every little thing I make up my mind to be,
Like I’m gonna be a daddy whose in the mix,
And I’m gonna be a husband who stays legit,
And I pray that I’m an artist who rises above,
The road that is wide and filled with self love,
Everything that I see draws me,
Though it’s only in You that I can truly see that its a feast for the eyes- a low blow to purpose.
And I’m a little kid at a three ring circus.
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
(Mr. Franklin, Step up to the mic sir)
The paparazzi flashes, and that they think that it’s you,
But they don’t know that who you are is not what you do,
True, we get it twisted when we peak at the charts,
Yo before we part from the start,
Where’s your heart?
You a pimp, hustler?
Tell me what’s your title,
America has no more stars, now we call them idols,
You sit idle, While we teach prosperity,
The first thing to prosper should be inside of me.
We’re free…
Not because of 22’s on the range,
But Christ came in range, we said yes now we changed,
Not the same, even though I made a fall,
Since I got that call, no more Saul, now I’m Paul.
(YEP!)
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
Don’t wanna walk away,
Don’t wanna walk away
How do I sense the tide that’s rising?
De-sensitizing me from living in light of eternity,
How do I sense the tide that’s rising?
It’s hypnotizing me from living in light of eternity,
How do I sense the tide that’s rising?
De-sensitizing me from living in light of eternity.
(Lord what we gonna do,We’re relying on you,
all eyes are on you Lord,
all eyes are on you, all eyes are on you Jesus.)
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
(Don’t let me lose my soul, my soul.)
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
(This is my honesty, Father, won’t you cover me.)
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
(Don’t wanna walk away, and all those people say)
I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
(Don’t wanna lose, I don’t wanna lose my soul.)
Lord forgive us when we get consumed by the things of this world,
That fight for our love, and our passion,
As our eyes are open wide and on you.
Grant us the privilege of your world view,
And may your kingdom be, what wakes us up, and lays us down.
(Hallelujah, Don’t wanna lose our soul,
No, Don’t wanna lose my soul.)
Hey excuse me,
I’m looking for the after party,
Toby,
Ha ha, yeah, last door on the left, you’ll hear it.
Thanks,
No problem.
Don’t let me lose my soul, I never wanna walk away,
I don’t wanna lose my soul,
No, no, no.
Don’t let me, don’t let me, lose my soul,
I don’t wanna walk away,
Don’t let me walk away,
Na na na na no,
Don’t let me lose, my soul,
I’m never gonna walk away.
This song is the best. Although I am female, every time I hear the chorus I am reminded that I get distracted and need to get back on the straight and narrow path that leads to Jesus. I don’t want the whole world if the cost is my soul. I need my Father’s covering. I want to be, do, and have lots of things, but sometimes the price is too high.
Thank you so much for sharing with me and others.
Nancy
I was listening to the radio this morning, and your song brought tears to my eyes. I had to look your song up on the Internet. Thanks for the reminder. In Jesus Name!
I heard your song for the first time today and had to search it out on google to find out more. I am the mother of 4 boys (27,16,13 & 7). It breaks my heart to know that my 16 year old listens to these rap songs that talk about everything that leads to losing your soul and worse than that is that my son is enticed by it all. When I heard your song I was with my friend in the car and told her that I wished my boys would listen to this instead of the junk that they do. Just wanted to thank you for taking a step of faith to sing about your soul and Jesus. I pray the Lord will always keep you from falling and that you would be truly blessed by Him. Great song! Thank you!
I would like to note that this song is by TobyMac. It is really important that America hears this message. Our country is driven on the idea that whoever gains the most toys wins or whoever gets the best job wins. That is not true.
So very true!
This is the world’s most infallible truth. Wish everyone chasing fame, jobs, girls and glory need hear this. It is vanity to have had a famous earthly record and be an eternal cast away in Heaven. God Bless Yu Toby
This song touches the heart of us all. I think everyone struggles to different degrees with wordly demons. As long as we are here we will have this struggle. It is a beautiful and well orchestrated song. I usually dislike rap but I love this beat.
I just wanted to say thank you for writing this song. I have been struggling with my own personal demons for years. When I heard this song it made me realize that life isn’t about what we don’t have, it’s about what we have right in front of us. Worldly goods are not what this life is about. It’s about Jesus Christ.. Thank you for helping me to see that again.. I surrender my life to Jesus.
This song really touches me everytime I hear it. I am only 13 years old and I wish the Kids at my school would turn to christ as I have
Praise Your Great and Awesome Name Jesus Christ
WOW! Driving into work this morning, I was taken back by this song. I looked it up and here I am on the website. It’s message is impressive and truthful. I hope to convey a similar message in my next book. Thanks
I heard this at work, and it is so amazing as out church does rap sometimes. I want to learn it for them, I live in Branson and that is a Bible belt still.
I’m a 53 year old prophetic minister. As I listened to this song for the first time tonite driving home from work, I thought now this is one song that I must have in my collection. It reminds us of the words of Jesus Himself. There really is no profit in gaining the whole world at the expense of your soul. May the Lord continue to raise up musicians and artist who will hear His voice and perpetually challenge the rest of the Body of Christ to be sober in their thinking and obedient to HiM in there choices………God bless you…..
everytime I hear this song it touches my soul. Today, my son and I have played it over several times while swimming. I believe that God has kept his annointed sons and dotas for such times. Surely…why lose the soul at the pleasure of the world. I will add this to my collection.
